Our Beliefs
What We Believe and Why
Each verse was taken from the King James 2000 version
Basic Theology
We believe the Bible is the infallible Word of God.
2 Timothy 3:16,17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
We believe in the absolute trinity of the God-head: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
2 Corinthians 13:14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen
We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ: Jesus is God.
John 1:1-4 In the beginning was the one who is called the Word. The Word was with God and was truly God. From the very beginning the Word was with God. And with this Word, God created all things. Nothing was made without the Word. Everything that was created received its life from him, and his life gave light to everyone.
We believe in the personality and deity of the Holy Spirit. He is a person, not a force and He is equally God.
John 14:26 But the Holy Spirit will come and help you, because the Father will send the Spirit to take my place. The Spirit will teach you everything and will remind you of what I said while I was with you.
We believe in the reality and personality of the devil; Satan is an angelic angel that literally exists.
John 10:10 The thief comes not, but to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour.
We believe in the natural depravity of man; All men are sinners.
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
We believe in the immorality and conscious existence of the soul. Whether saved or lost, all people go on in conscience existence in a literal heaven or hell.
Matthew 10:28 And fear not them who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Matthew 16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul.
Matthew 22:37 Jesus said unto him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.
We believe in a literal heaven and life everlasting for all true believers. Heaven is a literal place and the ultimate hope of every believer.
John 3:16, 17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
Becoming a Christian
We believe that Jesus was to be our substitute in death before the foundation of the earth was created.
1 Peter 1:20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you.
We believe that man was created in the image of God, but that by voluntary disobedience he fell from perfection.
Romans 5:12 Therefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
We believe that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us, signing the pardon of all who believe on Him.
Romans 5:8 But God commends his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
We believe in the propitiation for sin by the blood of Christ. We believe that all men were given access to forgiveness and redemption through the shed blood of Jesus. Jesus death on the cross satisfied God’s justice and turned away God’s wrath from those who put their faith in him. There is no other way the problem of sin can be resolved.
Romans 3:25 Whom God has set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;.
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is no other name under heaven given among men, by which we must be saved.
We believe that salvation comes by grace through faith and not by works. A sinner believes and is made righteous through union with Christ; he cannot earn salvation through good works.
Ephesians 2: 8, 9 For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves. It is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Galatians 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
We believe in the necessity of the new birth. Jesus said plainly that every person must be born again in order to see or enter into the Kingdom of God.
John 3:3-7 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus said unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto you, You must be born again.
Doctrine
We believe that divine healing is the power of Christ to heal the physically sick in answer to the prayer of faith.
James 5:14-16 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall deliver the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he has committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that you may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
We believe that the Holy Spirit has gifts to bestow upon the Christian; and that we should show spiritual fruit as evidence of a Spirit-filled life.
1 Corinthians 12:1-12 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. You know that you were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as you were led. Therefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Spirit. Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of workings, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man for profit. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another various kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But in all these works that one and same Spirit, dividing to every man individually as he will. For as the body is one, and has many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. '
Galatians 5:22, 23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, self-control: against such there is no law.
We believe that the Baptism with the Holy Spirit is to endue the believer with power; and that His incoming is after the same manner as in Bible days.
Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
We believe that water baptism by immersion is an outward sign of an inward work. We are commanded to follow the Lord’s example after believing the gospel and receiving the Word of God for ourselves.
Matthew 28:19 Go you therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
We believe in the open table at the Lord’s supper. We partake of communion with all true believers, whether or not they are members with us of the same local church, organization, or denomination.
1 Corinthians 11:24, 25 And when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, after he had eaten, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do you, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.
We believe in divorce only on scriptural grounds.
Matthew 5:32 But I tell you not to divorce your wife unless she has committed some terrible sexual sin. If you divorce her, you will cause her to be unfaithful, just as any man who marries her is guilty of taking another man’s wife.
1 Corinthians 7:12-15 But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother has a wife that believes not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away. And the woman who has a husband that believes not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy. But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God has called us to peace.
We believe in the restitution for past wrongs whenever possible. Repentance is not genuine when restitution is consciously and intentionally neglected.
Exodus 22:7 If a man shall deliver unto his neighbor money or goods to keep, and it be stolen out of the man’s house; if the thief be found, let him pay double.
We believe in Christian tolerance to all denominations of Christian faith. Where unbiblical heresy does not make the truth of Scripture of none effect, and where the integrity of the Gospel is preserved and displayed, there should be good-will and cooperation amongst brethren.
Mark 9:38-40 And John answered him, saying, Teacher, we saw one casting out demons in your name, and he followed not us: and we forbade him, because he followed not us. But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man who shall do a miracle in my name, that can soon after speak evil of me. For he that is not against us is for us.
The Church
We believe that tithing is the normal Biblical practice of financial support for the needs of the church that continues to this present day.
Malachi 3:10 Bring you all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and test me now in this, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
2 Corinthians 9:7 Every man according as he purposes in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loves a cheerful giver.
We believe in and contend for the unity of the Spirit and in the local church, at all times esteeming it leaders highly in love for their work’s sake, seeking always to obey those who have the rule over us as they set a godly example.
Philippians 2:1-3 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affections and mercies, Fulfill you my joy, that you be like minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through strife or vain glory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than themselves.
We believe it is our sacred duty to identify ourselves with the visible Body of Christ.
Acts 16:5 And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.
Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as you see the day approaching.
We believe that our denomination is not the only representation of Christ’s church on earth. We hold that there is no denominational exclusivity in God’s Kingdom. The true church is composed of all blood washed believers.
Matthew 12:50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father who is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.
1 Corinthians 3:4-9 For while one says, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are you not carnal? Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom you believed, even as the Lord gave to every man? I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that plants anything, neither he that waters; but God that gives the increase. Now he that plants and he that waters are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labor. For we are laborers together with God: you are God s field, you are God s building.
We believe in the evangelism of the heathen and the nations of the world. Our responsibility is the same as Christ’s - to seek that which is lost. Our responsibility extends far beyond our own family, friends, and nation.
Matthew 28:19, 20 Go you therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
James 5:20 Let him know, that he who converts the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
Daily Living
We believe that it is the will of God that we be sanctified daily, growing constantly in the faith.
Hebrews 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto maturity; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God.
We believe that rulers should be upheld at all times except in things opposed to the will of God.
Romans 13:1-5 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resists the power, resists the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Will you then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and you shall have praise of the same: For he is the minister of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid; for he bears not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, an avenger to execute wrath upon him that does evil. Therefore you must be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience’s sake.
We believe that the experience and daily walk of the believer should never lead him into extremes of fanaticism.
Philippians 4:5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.
We believe that it is the will of God that we walk in the Spirit daily.
Ephesians 4:30-32 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, by whom you are sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be you kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ s sake has forgiven you.
We believe in the obedience to civil government and its authorities unless to do so would be to deny the truth of God.
Romans 13:1, Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resists the power, resists the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves judgment.
We believe in the victorious life over sin, self, and bad habits by Bible study and an incessant prayer life. Whatever deliverance from sin or compulsion may be needed, it will come through believing prayer and the resulting work of the Holy Spirit according to the Word of God. No concession is made to any sin as though it is unconquerable.
Psalm 119:11 Your word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
Romans 6:12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.
James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that you may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
We believe in the maintenance of good works and holy living. True disciples serve in practical ways and their lifestyles reflect the doctrine they profess to represent and the desires of the Master they profess to serve.
1 Peter 1:16 Because it is written, You will be holy; for I am holy.
We believe in Christian perfection and holiness, through absolute surrender and consecration. The believer reserves nothing of sin nor love of this world for themselves, but receives the command to separate from defilement with a willing and obedient heart, believing that God’s command to “be holy for I am holy” is not only possible, but inevitable if the Scripture is obediently followed as a pattern for a repentant, up-to-date, humble walk with God through the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 1:4 According as he has chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love.
2 Peter 3:11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in all holy conduct and godliness,
Titus 1:16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
Titus 3:8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I desire that you affirm constantly, that they who have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.
James 1:20 For the anger of man works not the righteousness of God.
We believe in Christian modesty in the matter of dress and wearing. Adorning oneself to excite the sinful nature of anyone is to be used as a stumbling block for the enemy. To intentionally present the body in an immodest way to contradict any pretence of holiness a believer may profess.
1 Timothy 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with decency and propriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array.
We believe in the keeping of the Lord’s day as a matter of privilege rather than law. To honor the day of rest prescribed by the Lord is to act wisely and to make provision for not only physical and soulish replenishing, but spiritual priorities as well.
Exodus 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
We believe in conducting ourselves with liberty of conscience and a godly example to the world. We live and play with a constant consciousness of the weaker brother and the example put forth before a lost world; not causing confusion, nor being a stumbling block to either.
1 Corinthians 8:9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours becomes a stumbling block to them that are weak.
End Times
We believe in the personal, literal, bodily pre-millennial coming of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ will return to earth bodily and visibly and establish His government by which He will rule all nations for 1000 years.
1 Thessalonians 4:16, 17 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
We believe in the judgment seat of Christ where all saints will be finally rewarded for their deeds of commission and omission. Every believer will stand before the judgment seat of Christ and give an account of himself. Their reward and placement in His Kingdom will be explained by their deeds done in the body.
Romans 14:10 But why do you judge your brother? or why do you despise your brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that everyone may be recompensed for the things done in his body, according to what he has done, whether it be good or bad.
We believe that heaven is the glorious eternal home of born-again believers.
John 14:1-3 Let not your heart be troubled: you believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there you may be also.
Revelation 7:15-17 Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sits on the throne shall dwell among them. They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; neither shall the sun strike them, nor any heat. For the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.
We believe that hell is the place of eternal torment for all who reject Christ as the Savior.
Revelation 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night forever and ever.
Revelation 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
We believe in the resurrection of our literal bodies, the just and the unjust. The physical bodies of both the wicked and the just will be literally resurrected and will be judged before God in those resurrected bodies.
Daniel 12:2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
Luke 20:36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
John 3:11:25, 26 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?
Revelation 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and who had not worshiped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
We believe in the final day of judgment for the incorrigible wicked. God will specifically judge the wicked according to all their works and they will be punished accordingly and eternally.
Matthew 12:36 But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
2 Peter 2:9 The Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:
We believe in the everlasting punishment of the impenitent. The punishment of those who refuse to repent will have no relief or possibility of reprieve for all of eternity.
Matthew 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
Jude 1:7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after unnatural lust, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
